Applications Closed

Applications are now closed for the next service year which will begin in September of 2024 and run through August of 2025. City Council will approve appointments at their April 16th, 2024 meeting. All applicants will be notified of their status on April 17th, 2024. 

About: The Sammamish Youth Board (SYB) consists of local middle and high school students. They are appointed by the City Council. Their mission is to unite youth, adults, and government to form a relationship that promotes equality and mutual respect. Their purpose also includes creating integral activities that lead to a stronger community.

Local middle and high school students are welcomed and encouraged to attend meetings and SYB-sponsored events. SYB meets monthly during the school year. Meetings are typically at 6:00 pm on the third Wednesday of the month at Sammamish City Hall.

Want to Become a Formal Member?

The Sammamish Youth Board consists of teens that have the drive to make a change in Sammamish.  The board looks for teens that have creative input and have the follow-through to make their ideas heard.  Applicants should be interested in interacting with city officials, planning events for youth, and helping make decisions that will affect the future of the City of Sammamish. Applications open each February for the next service year. 

Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate and participate in monthly community service projects. For example, Mayor’s Month of Concern Food Drive, Adopt-a-Road, and park or trail restoration projects;
  • Help plan and manage community-wide events, such as Sammamish BOO!, Very Merry Sammamish, etc.;
  • Maintain relationships with community members, such as the Parks Commission, School Superintendent, City Police, and City Council.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Sammamish Youth Board, the applicant must:

  • Reside, work, go to school, or perform some legitimate activity within the Sammamish city limits;
  • Be currently in grades 5-11 or in a program equivalent to the grades listed above; 
  • Have a great desire to embrace the opportunities and responsibilities involved with the Sammamish Youth Board. (Specific time commitments are noted in the applications below.)
